About

Welcome to Hugs and Kiwis!

After debating for quite a while whether or not I wanted to start dabbling in the more serious blog world (to me, that simply means actually keeping up with a blog ;)  ), I finally convinced myself to just go for it!

A Little Bit About Me

I am studying to be a registered dietitian and am currently completing my dietetic internship!  Several years ago I completed a service year as an AmeriCorps member. Primarily, I taught nutrition and exercise to low-income school-age children throughout my community, but I also worked with food pantries and community centers to conduct adult nutrition education.  Sadly, the year had to end but it was both an enlightening and rewarding experience! I definitely gained TONS of skills that I will carry with me into the next chapter of my life.

I have a beautiful baby girl (okay, she's a dog) named Charlie.

She's a beagle basset mix and is the most stubborn dog I've ever known.  (Hence, she will randomly sit or lay down during a walk and not move!)

But, I love her anyway! I guess that's why we try to take her everywhere.

Canoeing!
And sometimes maybe spoil her a little too.

I am a big foreign language lover! I spent some time studying abroad in France and while there, of course, I had to also try the food! It was oh so yummy, and I've definitely gotten some inspiration from it!

Chocolate chip muffin fresh from the boulangerie! (I love the muffin wrapper haha)
I believe in the power of food. I believe it has a direct effect on health. While my diet is not perfect, I'm constantly searching for new ways to eat healthy food and turn those so called "bad" foods into healthified deliciousness. Here are my views of nutritious eating, tips, and food "experiments." I hope you enjoy! I would love to hear what you think so feel free to leave a message or email me at HugsNKiwis@gmail.com!

*Disclaimer: I am not a registered dietitian yet, nor am I a personal trainer/certified fitness instructor. A lot of what I say on here is what I personally believe based on what I have learned through school, research, and personal experiences. This blog is meant to throw around ideas and suggestions, because everyone is different. What I do that is successful may not be the right thing for others. This is not meant to replace medical advice. Please consult your doctor and/or a registered dietitian before making dietary or exercise behavior changes.

**As another side note, any food/recipe that I post that may potentially resemble something else posted by another blogger, website, etc., is purely coincidental! This is just what I ate/made! Otherwise, if I see something I like and want to post it into Hugs and Kiwis, I will always give credit where credit is due! Thanks!
